New Site Design

I’ve updated the site design yet again. This time I started with a great open source template called Ezekiel, by the talented Jake Wehner, at OpenWebDesign.org. I had to make a lot of changes to get it to look just right here, but I think it’s turned out to be nice and clean and inviting.

I also spent a lot of time analyzing the usability of the site, to make sure that new visitors and repeat visitors could quickly gather useful information from my site. I used the Home Page Goals heuristics from A List Apart to ensure that the home page — and all pages — are straighforward and friendly. I even used their suggestions on creating The Perfect 404, so if you ever run across a broken link within my site, you’ll have a much easier time figuring out what to do next. It’s not as cute as the Reddit 404 though. (Keep reloading: the mascot changes on every hit!)

I hope you like the new design. Maybe this time I’ll remember to write more often!
