Forum One job openings

I have a couple of friends who have worked at Forum One Communications in Alexandria. Forum One primarily does web application development for non-profits, and their employees seem to love it there. They currently have a job opening for a Senior Project Officer. If you are interested in the position, and know me, feel free to apply, and I’ll put in a good word for ya. If you don’t know me… well, you should still apply but I can’t help you out in that case ;-)

Maryland walking bill update

Here’s an update on the Maryland walking bill I mentioned this morning. The paragraph after Shareese DeLeaver’s first quote is perhaps the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in a newspaper.

Maryland walking bill

The Republican governor of Maryland vetoed 19 bills yesterday. I probably disagree with him on most of the vetoes, but that’s not the worst part. Among other things, apparently Montgomery County Girl Scouts and elementary school children had submitted a proposal to designate walking as the state exercise. This was an exercise in government, so they could see how the legislative process worked. The legislature passed it, so they made plans to travel to Annapolis today to watch the governor sign the bill. But he vetoed the bill, dismissing it as “silly”! I mean, in his mind, who’d dare think that the government should be promoting exercise?

Segway sighting

I saw somebody scooting down the street yesterday in a Segway. Or rather, down the sidewalk. It was the first time I actually saw someone using one of those “in real life.” I have two observations. First, he looked really funny. Second, I thought he was gonna run somebody over. Those things really are more like bicycles; if bike riders aren’t allowed to fly down the sidewalks, why should Segway users be able to do so?!?

Applebee’s article

About three years ago, I went to lunch at an Applebee’s near Iowa City with my friends Molly and Cyndy. Look what they’re serving now.

New car

Oh yes, here’s a link to my new car. Even John Farrell loves it.

Paper clips

When Prometheus moved into its “new” offices back in 2000, we had to stock up on office supplies. Marcie was charged with the task of ordering paper clips. There were 12 of us so she tried to order 12 boxes of paper clips. Instead she ordered 12 gross boxes of paperclips (12 x 144 = 1,728 boxes = 172,800 paper clips). And the total cost was still like $15 or something ridiculously cheap.

Anyway, on Slashdot today there’s a poll, Best artifact from your dot-com job? One of the choices was “200 boxes of paperclips” which got me cracked up laughing.

New email address

I sent out my new email address to a bunch of friends the other day, and I’ve heard from at least 4 of them who have checked out this site! It wasn’t really going to be permanent, just something to fill some space until I decide exactly what I want to do with the site. But I dunno, with the positive response (four whole people!) maybe I’ll keep it going… :)

Dr.Lunch

Dr.Lunch was made just for me — it’s a web app that helps you decide where to go to lunch. My friend Erik will undoubtedly be glad I found this, because I ask for his help nearly every day!
